Eurosonic Noorderslag

The 2009 edition of EuroSonic Noorderslag, taking place 15, 16 and 17 January in the Dutch city of Groningen, will focus on Belgian music talent and on the Belgian music industry. Comprising of the EuroSonic Noorderslag festivals and conference, the weekend has over 250 international bands and acts performing and expects to bring 2500 music business professionals together. ‘With its location in the heart of Europe Belgium forms a melting pot of cultural influences where bands such as Front 242 and TC Matic were inspired to create their unique sound’, says Peter Smidt, creative director of EuroSonic Noorderslag. ‘Many bands followed and gained international respect: dEUS, Soulwax, Girls in Hawaii and Ghinzu... to name only a few. Belgium also stands for a vibrant live scene with lots of great venues, clubs and festivals and of course Rock Werchter, recognized as the best festival in the world. Apart from several Belgian bands and acts performing at the festival, doing business with Belgium will be the topic of panels and meetings during the conference.’ The Belgium focus will be presented on Pukkelpop 2008, taking place on 14-16 august in Hasselt-Kiewit, and is supported by Studio Brussel, Wallonie Bruxelles Musiques and Muziekcentrum Vlaanderen.
